Rome – December 21st 2020 – CEBAT S.p.A. was awarded the Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) scope by Prysmian Group, the world leader in the sector of cable systems for energy and telecommunications.
The project includes the drilling through basaltic soil and the supply, welding and pulling of the large HDPE pipes where the 132 kV HVAC cable will be installed, when the submarine link reaches the two islands.
The connection between Playa Blanca (Lanzarote) and La Oliva (Fuerteventura) will be carried out by Quadrifoglio Drilling Srl, an important Italian HDD player, part of CEBAT group since October 2020.
In the HV sector, Quadrifoglio Drilling has played a key role for decades on the main Italian offshore HV links such as SAPEI, Calabria to Sicily, Italy to Montenegro, Italy to Malta, and the recently inaugurated Capri to Sorrento links.
The increase in HVAC and HVDC submarine connections, and the huge investments in High Voltage connections to increase the reliability and resilience of the networks, see underground cables as a key enabling factor, also to reduce the visual impact of these infrastructures.
HDD is a key technology to be able to offer an integrated service, together with traditional trenching and cable laying services. For marine landings, the HDD technique allows maximum safeguard of marine ecosystems and guarantees a longer life of the infrastructure by reducing its exposure to seabed erosion, without impacting on beaches and coastal landings.
The works will be completed in 2021.
